Bethlehem – “House of Bread” initially named after Canaanite fertility god Lehem is a Palestinian city located in the central West Bank, Palestine, about 10 km south of Jerusalem.
The town is best known for Biblical stories from the Book of Ruth, hometown of King David and the birthplace of Jesus.
The Church of Nativity was originally commissioned in 327 by Constantine the Great and his mother Helena on the site that was traditionally considered to be the birthplace of Jesus.
Today the Church of the Nativity is a World Heritage site.
