Drone over the dry land and sinkholes of the Dead Sea. DJI_0046-02

The sinkholes of the Dead Sea were first noticed in the 1970s, but have been forming more rapidly in recent years. The holes are dangerous for people who visit or live in the area.
For the past few decades, the sea has been shrinking rapidly, due to the diversion of water from the Jordan River (which feeds the Dead Sea) and mineral mining from its waters in the south. The water’s surface is currently receding by about 3 feet (1 m) per year.
