Banias spring (also known as Hermon River) is the Arabic and modern Hebrew name of an ancient site that developed around the shrine dedicated to Greek god Pan (god – who instill panic). It is located at the foot of Mount Hermon, north of the Golan Heights, Golan, Israel. The spring is the source of the Banias River (also called Hermon River) , one of the main tributaries of the Jordan River. In the Gospels of Matthew and Mark this site also known as Caesarea Philippi.
